Hypnosis for Panic Attacks

Hypnosis is possibly one of the most misunderstood
non-drug techniques available to panic sufferers. Perhaps this is because for years, entertainers have used
hypnosis to make people do silly things -- clucking like a chicken or barking like a dog. Unfortunately, the result
is a fairly skeptical mainstream population. It's not uncommon to hear people suggest that solving a problem with
hypnosis is something akin solving it with snake oil.
If you are one of these skeptics, then you should
know that the medical community has a much more favorable perspective on hypnosis. Accepted by the American Medical
Association since 1958, hypnosis is now one of the methods many doctors use to treat a variety of
conditions.

If you are considering hypnosis for panic
attacks then you can be confident that you are pursuing a treatment that does have potential for helping you
immensely. There are no medical risks associated with hypnosis, and because it involves no drugs, it can be used in
combination with many other treatment solutions.
WHAT EXACTLY IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is a trance-like state. The hypnotized
individual is not unconscious, and cannot be coaxed into doing something that they would not do in a conscious
state. In fact, the hypnotized individual has simply tuned out the external world, and is entirely focused on their
internal "world". Being hypnotized is actually a
state of deep relaxation, where a person feels calm and focused. Once in that relaxed state, a hypnotic suggestion
is given to the individual. In a state of deep relaxation, the mind is more receptive to suggestion, and so can
easily begin to accept positive changes without the "yeah but . . ." barriers that our conscious mind likes to
throw up.
Hypnosis for panic attacks is an excellent option.
Why? Because simply descending into a deep calm can give a panic sufferer immediate relief. Beyond that, the
subconscious affirmations made during hypnosis can provide the sufferer's subconscious with new coping skills and
over time turn the pattern of fear and panic into a pattern of calm relaxation.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Entering a hypnotic state is very similar to entering
a deeply meditative state. You can engage a hypnotist to guide you, or you can enter that deeply meditative state
on your own through self hypnosis. If you decide to do self hypnosis, find a quiet place as free from
external stimulation as possible. Don't lay down -- if you get very relaxed you might drift off to sleep and you
can't be hypnotized in your sleep. Here are the steps you'll need to take to obtain the deep relaxation of
hypnosis:
Close your eyes and begin by taking three deep
relaxing breaths.
Imagine deeply relaxed muscles. Start at your toes
and move slowly up your body, telling yourself:
my toes are relaxed…
my calves are relaxed…
All the way up your body, going slowly, breathing
deeply. Do not move on until you can feel the relaxation in your muscles.
My face is relaxed …
My scalp is relaxed…
My entire body is relaxed…
I am deeply relaxed….
Once your body is relaxed your mind will be receptive
to affirmative suggestions. Affirmations are simply positive statements regarding the new and healthier mental
patterns you intend to establish. You might make
these affirmations if you are practicing hypnosis for panic attacks:
|
...I am free
from panic attacks
...I handle any situation calmly
and confidently
...I am calm and confident at all
times
...I am relaxed and at ease in all
situations
...I am stress free and manage stress
naturally
...I am free from stress and
anxiety
...I am in full control of my mind and body at all
times
...I am confident, outgoing and can handle any
situation
...I remain calm in new situations and when under
pressure

THERE'S NO WAY I CAN DO HYPNOSIS
Studies indicate that 1 in every 10 people cannot be
hypnotized. Which means that 9 out of 10 people can
be. People who respond strongly to the power of suggestion
are the most able to reach a hypnotic state. People who have difficulty relaxing are the people most challenged by
hypnosis. For these people, it may take some additional attempts before you actually reach a hypnotic
state. Even for those who can do it, hypnosis for panic
attacks is not a quick fix. It takes a few sessions to begin to have the subliminal affirmative suggestions take
hold. Be patient and keep trying, with practice you can begin gradually changing your thought patterns for the
healthier.
